Does anyone have a spare footbrake rod (pedal to cross shaft) please? No joy so far from the usual suppliers. Thanks Mike

Oh dear Mike. I'm looking for one too but was relying on Mike Dowley to supply.

Here's hoping there's someone out there who knows of a source for both of us.

Mike and Andy, Digby Elliott makes these. Check with him to see if he has any on hand.

I am about to make a small batch for my D and two local J owners.
They will be from solid square stock as the first one from tube proved not strong enough.
I could add one or two more, though it might take a month or two before they are finished.

Onno,
early D ... short chassis.... parts are different to cope with the shallower and shorter chassis side rails.... so check what you need .....Late D and J dims are the same.

I had to resolve this problem a while back. The correct tubing is known as 4130N tubing and can be sourced from UK companies who supply materials for home built aircraft, e.g. Sky-craft ltd. This link takes you to the page:
http://www.sky-craft.co.uk/acatalog/Skycraft_Home_Builder_Permit_Aircraft_Steel_Stock_4130_Tube.html
£15.70 per foot for 9/16" x 0.12 wall, and it should come with a certificate of conformance.

Mention in dispatches goes to Lew Palmer and John Reid who came up with the original spec.

So many dynamos

Many thanks for those leads chaps. I may decide to make my own, but since you are currently manufacturing a batch Onno could you I've me some idea of the expected price?

Do you happen to know how much shorter the shaft is on the Early D. The first one I made for my early D did not fit correct. Now I know why, it was a copy from my J2.

Thanks
Gary

Gary,
Total length is 15 1/2"
length between pin centres is 14 5/*'
length of tube between ends is 12 1/4"
Lever arm on brake cross shaft is approx 1/4" shorter than on the later cars, so does not project above top of chassis rail.
hope this helps
