On behalf of the Vintage Minor Register, I am very excited to invite the MMM Register once again to Pre-War Prescott in July. With less than six months to go to the weekend, PWP 2017 will take place over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 22nd/23rd July. The PWP 2017 website is up and running at http://www.prewarprescott.com, including the online entry facility.

We are looking at another record MMM entry this year - last year the MMM Register gathered a fantastic 56 entries. So far, we have received 18 entries (3 at this point last year!), including 8 MMM’s already. I’m also highly delighted to note that Cat and her Dutch MG Group will be joining us again this year. We also have several other clubs joining us this year for the first time, so another fantastic weekend is on the horizon!

In other news, the Vintage Minor Register is inaugurating a second annual weekend this year, based at the Shuttleworth Trust at Old Warden, Bedfordshire. We are organizing the weekend in conjunction with the de Havilland Moth Club who will be joining us at Old Warden on Saturday 29th July and we will be holding a Scenic Tour on Sunday. I’ll post further details here in the next few weeks, but for now, please save the date and of course the MMM Register is warmly invited!

Well done Ian!

The event is certain to be a great draw, but it will leave many of us with a problem to resolve:

Whether to go the the Prescott event or whether, as I plan to do, support our racers at the two-day MGCC/VSCC Cadwell Park race meeting that weekend. Mark has done a sterling job gathering increasingly large grids for this event - see http://www.triple-mracing.com/ for more details.

Dick, are you sure that it s a 2 day meeting at Cadwell? The VSCC events calendar gives it as a 1 day meeting on the Sunday, which would allow keen types to do both events.

Hi Frank,

MGCC are running a meeting on the Saturday and have given us a pre war race. VSCC on the Sunday for the MG vs Austin Challenge.

I m sure that both Pre War Prescott and Cadwell weekend will be a huge success despite the unavoidable clash.

Yep, this is unfortunate. The BOC shifted the date of PWP 2017 on me and I couldn't get it changed back to the previous weekend. But now there are competitive and non-competitive events on the same weekend, so no excuses for anyone to stay home!

Post_Brexit, I wonder if it is worth lobbying Parliament to cancel the British winter and double the length of the British summer so we can avoid such clashes in future!

Apologies to all, I wasn't up to date with the MGCC meeting on the Saturday, but as Ian says, events to suit all tastes.

Great news from the MoD this morning. In past years, we have had enjoyed the awesome sight and sound of RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster over Pre-War Prescott.
This morning I received news from the MoD that this year the Flight has allocated us their iconic 1942 Douglas C-47 Dakota ZA947. ZA947 is currently painted to represent Dakota FZ692 of No 233 Squadron, around the D-Day period in 1944. This aircraft, which was named ‘Kwicherbichen’ by her crews, was involved in para-dropping operations on the eve of D-Day and subsequently in re-supply and casualty evacuation missions into and out of forward airfields in the combat areas. The female nurses who escorted the casualties on these flights became known as ‘The Flying Nightingales’.
By the end of 1944, 1,092 stretcher cases and 467 sitting wounded had been evacuated to England by the 233 Squadron Dakotas. The Dakota will make a stirring sight and sound over the hill on Saturday.

Nick,

Actually you are number 2 - John Mansell is also booked in with his TA. Last year we had five, and I'm expecting more this year. You won't be lonely, believe me!

Forgive me for wandering slightly off topic, but I have a rather special request to make if I may. I have been lucky enough to acquire a rare (actually unique) 1933 SV Morris Minor Maddox-bodied fixed head coupe (see below) from a chap in Ontario. It has spent years in a museum but is running soundly. I plan to have it shipped to me here in Seattle for about 12 months so I can get familiar with it, give it a full service and possibly respray to two-tone 'Cream Cracker' colours which I believe was the original - it has its original brown leather interior. I have all of the necessary documentation to recover the British registration.

Now to that special request. I plan to ship the car to England once it is ready so that Jayne and I can use it on our summer visits to England, and the Prescott weekend in particular. But in order to be able to do that, I need to find someone with space to store it and who would be interested in exercising it (very important) when we are not around (about 50 weeks in the year!). So is there anyone who lives within striking distance of Prescott that might be able to help out? If so, please drop me a message so we can discuss. Thanks, Ian.

Couple of quick news updates. The Dutch MG Group is booking five MMM's - three received so far, two more in the pipeline. Cat is bringing her M this time, instead of the VW camper she brought last time! This brings the MMM entry to 24 so far.

Meanwhile, Mike Dowley is working feverishly on his Q Type (Q0252) to get it ready for the day, and of course he will be leading the band at the Clubhouse in the evening.

And in other news, our friends at Cotswold Motorsport are bringing three course cars - in their words, 'something fast and loud and pretty', including a Ferrari 458. We'll be raffling runs in these in aid of the RAF Charitable Trust. With a 0-60 of 2.9 secs and a top speed of 240 mph, a run up Prescott in the 458 should be ... memorable.
