Browsing through this mag on a wet afternoon and the article on "Triple M" history it made me smile a bit about concerns over "originality". The J2 photo which presumably is a contemporary factory photo has a very odd fuel tank with no mouldings on the side, non standard filler cap or any visible fuel pipes. The spare wheel is secured with a strap and its carrier appears to be chromed front and behind. The sidelight appears to be chromed also. Enough to confound simple souls like me! Was this a prototype perhaps? The J4 has painted sidelights though. Nice photos. Simon C. |

The magazine also had a very nice introductory photograph showing the club chairman shaking hands with Peter Green. The occasion – not capioned alas – was at the Register Summer Gathering, at which Peter was presented with the 'Marque of Friendship' award in recognition for everything he has done and continues to do, for the club and our register.

And in the "Looking Back" photos on the last page there is a photo of Peter's K3011 at Wiscombe - date unknown.

I agree with you Jeremy, my competition number that year was number 14.

Simon C,
The J2 in the photograph is, I would suggest, the prototype and road test car so no surprise that it's not quite like the production ones. Note the polished fins on the rear brake drums, the large rear view mirror and lack of B nuts on the windscreen, all features that are clearly visible in contemporary road tests. I rather like the leather spare wheel strap - looks just like mine.
Having said that I think it's a pretty poor show that the MGCC's official magazine can produce an article like this that is so inaccurate. Was the Register consulted? And if not, why not?

Simon, the Register was consulted about some of the text but not about any of the artwork. (Never let the facts get in the way of a good story or somesuch ....)

Dick,
The artwork is fine - that's an interesting photo of the J2 prototype - but having inaccurate text is inexcusable in an MGCC publication.
Simon J J3437 P.S. For sure it'll not be getting reprinted in the Yearbook |
