Is there a more appropriate looking option to having an obviously modern HT coil on our cars?

Maurice.

I replaced the coil on a PA recently with a Ferguson TE tractor oil filled coil, the main reason being that it is brown and blends in with everything else. I await to see how it does being mounted horizontally as it is oil filled but it seems OK so far.

I carry a spare just in case always aware of the three "c's" rule on electrical faults. (Coil, contacts, capacitor/condenser.)

Having had insulation fail on two replica coils, I now use T type coils from Moss. They look the part but remember that T's were positive earth, so reverse the CB, IGN connections.

This one from Holden, not too offensive: https://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp?pCode=030.005

I can't open the Holden website but this one from Moss looks the part - https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/ignition-coil-reproduction-of-original-q12-143-210.html

The Holden link is working now - same coil as Moss.

Interesting that Holden states it is not supplied with the plastic nut for the HT lead, but Moss shows that nut in one of its photos.

The 1939 Lucas catalogue lists the H.S. coil for Triple-M cars apart from the PB for which it lists the Q12 as per the Moss and Holden example. (Oddly, it doesn't list the K Type at all). But interestingly the H.S. coil is described as being a sports coil "attractively finished in polychromatic brown". So a brown coil would seem to be right for everything apart from a PB (and possibly a K Type).

On customer feedback on the Holden site:
"Listing is a bit confusing first it says tower nut not included then further on it says it is. I ordered the tower nut to be on the safe side and of course it came with the nut taped to the coil. A sort out of the wording would have saved the extra expense. Product looked good and works well can't ask for much more."

I have now obtained a T Type repro G12 Coil from Holden’s.
In the light of earlier comment, when fitting it to my negative earth N Type, do I connect the lead from the ignition to the to the CB connection on the coil?
Forgive my ignorance .

Malcolm,

From the Holden website: "This coil is labelled for use on +ve earth vehicles, but if using on a -ve earth vehicle, connect the 12v supply to the CB terminal and the ditributor points to the SW terminal."
