I've found a simple solution to this problem, also if you simply want a quieter car.
Custom Chrome Racing make the 'Cherry Bomb Tail Bomb Silencer.With a 19" overall length it comes with an inlet diameter that is a snug fit over the standard J/P tailpipe.No mods or welding required.The oversized chrome outlet pipe is rather boy racerish but the whole silencer can easily be sprayed matt black.
Easy to fit, just need to fabricate a new rear support bracket.
