Just noted that there is a programme on Sky channel 125 titled Chasing Classic Cars - the subject is a PA Airline. The channel is Discovery HD and it is 10 pm tonight.

Should be interesting!

Not to be critical, but tell me whether Wayne Caring hasn't made a mess of his Airline. I don't understand why he thought black and orange was a good color combination. One could criticize mine in burgundy and champagne colors, but I think it is more tasteful than Halloween colors.

By the way, Wayne's Airline is the very same car that was featured in the "MG Enthusiast" magazine series about the restoration back in the early to mid-1980s.

Thanks again, George for mentioning the programme which was very enjoyable. I have recorded it and will watch again.

I take your point, Lew, my choice would have been black over green!

Main point though is what a fabulous little car the Airline is.

Cheers,

Chris.

Perhaps I am in the minority, but to me Wayne Carini is a very annoying person. He buys lovely cars, (some such as the Muntz Jet not so) removes any original part which might be slightly defective, and then sells the car on at a vast profit. He claims that his aim in life is to chase classic cars. No Wayne it is classic money you are chasing.

Is that the one my Dad trimmed and he is mentioned in the article? Top class job. Personally I think Airline's are stunning and my fave 2 seater MG. I recommend a book called "Art Deco and British Car Design - The Airline Cars of the 1930s". It has a beautiful 2-tone Green MG NA Arline on the front. It examines cars from a mainly design and aesthetic point of view, which is the part that interests me the most. Loads of pictures, it's the classic car equivalent of a "top shelf" magazine! More glossy pictures of attractive models than boring editorial content :-).

When Martyn Wise, the then Editor and owner of MG Enthusiast magazine, had the idea to serialise the Airline restoration he commissioned several local (to West Yorkshire) specialists. A lot of the work was done by my good friend the late Keith Wilkinson. Keith had not long previously finished his own PB two seater when he did this work and, sadly, died soon after. Keith lived in the village of Idle, Bradford, not far from the old Jowett car and Scott motorcycle factories and close to the world famous Idle Working Men's Club .

No doubt twinned with the Loose Womens Institute and the Ugley Womens Institute.

I totally agree with James and in I my humble opinion think the M.G. Airline is the most elegant and beautiful example of the style from the Art Deco period if you wish a two seater enclosed vehicle. Definitely on my wish list.

To think that ,in the late 60s l bought one for about £200 or so and used it as an everyday car. I had a journey of about 30 miles each way to work in Padiham in Lancashire before the days of motorways.
The car , BDV 402 , now lives in Peter Welch’s museum in Vancouver.

BDV 402 was in Belfast in the 50s. I have a photo of it, but can't lay my hands on it just now.
