Following an apparent oil shortage causing a rear main bearing seizure on my D-type engine, I need to replace the front 'sump to pump' oil pipe. I'll need a new or excellent conditioned replacement please.

Sometimes it's through sucking in air at the sump/pipe joint. I've bolted a block there (using the original bolt holes) and fitted a Wade connection.

Click on Reply to Topic immediately at the bottom of the thread, not the "Quick Reply" box at the very bottom, then you will see:

"Click here to attach a photo to your post" at the bottom of the box that then appears.

Cheers Allan, I await your photos ...
Good advice on the rebuild, check the gaskets are sealed well.
I've tried Barry but with no response; I thought he'd stopped doing these bits now anyway?
I suspect I crushed the pipe getting the engine out so may not have been the problem in the 1st place; but I know the volume of oil in the pump casing and the rocker box was minimal ... yet oil pressure was 70psi. What else could allow the white-metal to fuse itself to the rear flange ... wrong setup or no oil! Not sure I'm going to be certain to what was the cause ... I just need to make sure the rebuild is right - perhaps I'll start another string on this subject in the technical.

I was confused by a previous post. I thought the sleeve had fused to the taper but it's the bearing that melted and attached to the sleeve. If you had 70pounds pressure it won't be the suction side. Rear bearing too tight perhaps?

Chris

I got one from S&V not too long ago for the J2 and it was very nicely made and fitted perfectly.

And on some versions you have to use "Edit" which takes you to where you can resize

I am still after a sump to pump pipe if any one has a good one spare? Can pick up at Stoneleigh. Looks as though S&V don't have any as no response to requests!

Now that digital image sizes have increased along with improved cameras, I have increased the maximum allowed image file size to 10Mb. Of course, the larger the file size the longer the upload will take. The upload program reduces the file size before displaying the picture so it is still worth setting the camera resolution (file size) so that the upload doesn't take all day.
