CM2382 has been re-united with its original registration mark DG 2745.

The owner was unaware of the original registration (he had an age-related number - BF 8217 - until Mike Dalby contacted him with the good news).

Mike had been looking at some old photos in the Register archives when he came across one of DG 2745. DG being a Gloucester registration, he contacted the Gloucester Records Office and with Ted Hack's help - Ted living locally visited the office - they traced the number to CM2382.

I then asked the Archivist for a certified copy of a document, which fortunately gave the chassis number and registration mark and sent off a submission to DVLA.

A new V5C was issued in less than 2 weeks.

A great result!

JOHN JAMES DVLA representative MG Octagon Car Club.

A great result indeed! Is it still a Coupe?

Such a pity that so few registration records record chassis numbers.

Just for interest to round off the story, here are two photos of the car; first the period 'shot' and next, the car as it now is.

What a lovely little car!

The key to success with DVLA seems to be the document containing both reg no and chassis no. My chassis file only refers to chassis no ,so my attempt to regain my original reg failed [twice]despite the support of the club. Geoff

Yes, that would normally be the requirement, but not exclusively.

In the case of J4256 we were able to reclaim registration mark JO 9139, following s long 'fight' with DVLA.

The chassis number and registration mark were not on the same piece of paper, which prompted DVLA to turn the application down.

We went to appeal (unsuccessful) and then to the 2nd stage appeal to the Chief Executive (waste of time as 'the pyramid always supports itself') and then finally to the Independent Complaints Assessor (ICA).

This gentleman upheld our appeal, which was based on the fact that there was a link between the two documents; the link being the name of the first owner and his address.

DVLA were quite wrong to dismiss our appeals and the ICA told them so.

Thank goodness for an independent appeals facility!

Thanks for the publicity!
Now what we want to find is why the owner Mr W. Swan had a Junior Car Club badge on the car and did with the club!

Is it my imagination or do the headlamps in the early photo look enormous?

Yes they look enormous and each different! Also the front wings are non-standard, so the picture may be in the late 1930s and may not be the original owner!
