A friend of mine is trying to trace his late fathers MG. He was in the RAF and describes the car as a 2 seater with a V windscreen, so presumably an M type? The registration was GW 7893. Does anyone know any history of this car or if it still survives. Any information would be greatly appreciated. He has a picture of which I’ll try to get a copy for the records. Thanks, Ian. |

Ian,
The Register has no information on this car (GW 7893).

As Peter says, not on the register so a photograph would be good! GW registration was London and all were destroyed by Hitler or later. We have GW 7696 on the register and was a metal bodied car with a build date of February 1932, so a late car, for comparison.

Here you go, I’ve managed to get a photo of the car in question. Thank you all for your replies so far.

Super picture, and it is a metal bodied late car! There looks to be a Scottie dog mascot on the radiator cap and also a Scottie dog in the arms of the lady!

Mike,
Scottie dogs were indeed all the rage during this period.
Now that I’ve seen the photo of the car I’m not convinced that it is a GW prefix. It could be GM or even GN? Any thoughts?
Thanks again, Ian. |

Couldn't be GM - only reached GM 3294 by 1937.
London GN numbers started December 1930 and reached 9999 before the end of 1931, so is a possibility.
GW numbers were also London-issued but I have no data on their sequencing, only that they started in December 1931.
