I've sent the vendor a message. I have seen pictures of this car before, it's not a J3 I believe. Production of the J3 was completed prior to 1934 anyway.
He say in the add "This is a Original MG J with Compressor" so he technical does not claim it to be a J3. If it has driven from Paris to Peking in 1997 and was just put away after that then the buyer is in for a lot of mechanical work!
Wrong way round!!!! It wss the Peking-Paris rally So if the car went Paris to Peking then it would have certainly been a heroic single car run - & I am sure we would have heard all about it.
Is this not the car which was originally build by Peter Wigglesworth.
If it is then the C type body has a March back end with slab tank as opposed to the pointed C type rear. The car use to look rather smart until it was sold. It was then used for long distance rallying and generally became worn out, to include running across sandy roads with no air filter over the carb to the blower. This was many years ago and who knows what condition the car is in now
The car participated in the 1997 Paris to Peking (so not the more famous Peking-Paris). Then I found a video on Vimeo.com covering this rally http://vimeo.com/15688494. After some two minutes you can see the registration: KFO 414. Apparently it is a D-type rebuilt in C-style, C-type engine (according to the triple-M register 2010).
I also believe this car was advertised a few months ago as a J2 for euro 120.00
