Can anyone tell me what chassis number 6 cylinder engine 707 AF was originally fitted to and if the car still survives i think it must be earlier than chassis F0697.

Many thanks

F0313 was 525AF and F0637 is 857AF a bit of maths should narrow it down but it is a bit late for me to manage that now...

I reckon, looking at the register, that the chassis will be between F0421 and F0437

Mike Allison's files say it's from F0466 which is not on the current Register Listing, but it could well be that it has been heard of in the (post-war) past anyway. Graham Arrondelle might be able to tell you if it has?!

Regarding F type engine numbers -- I have F1 # F0705 on the brass plate on the firewall it has the chassis number and engine number as 967AF
but the engine is stamped 1318FB -- does anybody have any information
about this replacement engine and the different numbering system. The History file shows that there were problems with the original engine in the early 1930's and it could have been replaced then ?.It would be interesting if the original engine 967AF is in another car or under a bench somewhere.
Many thanks in advance ---- John

John, my notes say you have engine 1318BF from F 1031, which does not appear to survive. Of 707AF there is no sign, but it could of course be under a bench somewhere!

Engines with the BF suffix started appearing at around chassis number F 0876, and are irregularly dispersed from then on, I can't say why. That is, I don't know why! Perhaps a reworked engine?

Regards,
Graham

Yes, I think the B suffix indicated a rebore. My J was done in the factory before sale, with a batch of others...

Cheers

P

PS Nobody has asked you David, have you found a complete engine for your car?

Many thanks for the reply's -- I have just gone and checked the number stamped on the engine block (very old stamping )and it is definitely
1318
F B
Stamped as above F B below the number.
The response so far from the forum suggests that it should read B F - ?
All very interesting.
The engine is in the car and the car is going very well at the moment.
Cheers,
John

Thanks for the help in finding which chassis 707AF originally belonged to which doesn't look to have survived, the block came from BW in the early eighties with various other bits and pieces.

PeterL. i'm still wanting various bits so if you know of a complete F type engine i would be very interested.

Kind regards David F0708

Which all goes to show that nothing is written in stone!

Perhaps a photo of the engine number (plus chassis front dumb iron) could be sent to the Registrar (i.e. me!) for our records?

Graham

You can send me a registration form as found on the 'Register Your Car' bit of the website, and it would be useful if you could send me digital pix of the numbers on the front dumb iron and cylinder block. Guarantee plate is optional as are any other numbers (bonnet hinge, gearbox) but all are welcome and will help in future identification of your car!

Regards,
Graham
