Here in the USA there was adman for Philip Morris cancer sticks. He was big (well....) during the war and into the 50's. He had a famous "CALL FOR PHILLIP MORRIS" tagline. Here are two pix of him with a 2 seat NB with a 1939 New York State license plate in front. Could this be the 1935 New York Auto Show NB, now owned by Reed Yates?
Clearly there was a UK reg plate before the bumper and NY plate was added. There are a few differences between the two photos - can you spot them?
Be sure to check out the fun YouTube video after the two pix. There are plenty more.
I have had research about the Philip Morris cars on the back burner so thanks for your pictures. I had heard they also used PBs for the campaign and speculated that the Colliers probably had PM as a client.
Differences in pictures? Center laced wheels in top picture. Still 18"? the tires look big enough. Horn and rad cap on top picture. No rad badge on bottom picture.
How can you tell if it's a 2-seater? My attached picture of the New York Show is of a 4 seater. And note the front apron does not have holes drilled for UK number plate.
In the straight on shot it looks like it's the front seat back that Johnny is perched on. He's too far forward to be a back seat back, and the pleats are a bit higher than 4 seater. Also, the dogleg looks as though it's a 2 seater. Hard to tell for sure. Just my thoughts.
I think you're right - it's NOT the NYC auto show NB based on the front apron holes. Wonder if it's my NB (NA0870)? No clue when mine came to the USA but it was burnt toast when I got it from Jerry Keuper. Very little remaining.
Good thought about the Collier - Philip Morris connection.....
