OK this is going to be a tough one but who can identify the car that carried this remarkable woman and is it still around.

A later TA , TB or a TC. If there was a date known for the photo that would help a bit more. Am guessing post war and TC

I would agree with Oliver and say TA,TB or TC.

Clare Hollingsworth was mentioned in this morning' s BBC Today programme - a very tough lady indeed!

Is the car in the background a clue about the loocation? The number plate is white with dark numerals suggesting somewhere outside the British Isles. The metal railings seem to be still in place on the wall. Is that a UK tax disc and can the pattern be dated? She looks forty something suggesting the 1950's.

The numbers look as if they might be Arabic. Egypt maybe? I see she was in Algeria in the 60s, could be there.

The "plates" on the car in the rear certainly are Arabic as Nick
suggested. As she was covering part of the Algerian war during
the years 1954-62 she would have been 43-53 year old. However, I can't imagine that the photo was taken during the brutal, bloody Battle of Algiers years.

Lebanon could be a possibility as she was in Beirut during the
late fifties around the time when friend Kim Filby, (The Third Man) defected to Moscow, January 1960.

Below is a link to her "Desert Island Discs" programme with Sue Lawley on the BBC in 1999. If you have trouble opening the progeamme as I did then click and download it. It does it immediately.

I'm listening to the programme as I write.

Some career, some Woman! To paraphrase Churchill................

Brian.
