The VSCC now require a ' 1ltr catch tank for the radiator overflow' for speed events and racing. I am finding it a real challenge to fit this in the very limited space. I don't want to cut off the original overflow pipe and have been advised not to run the water overflow into the oil catch tank. I would love to see pictures of how the racing boys have solved this requirement! Graham PB0602 |

Graham, you are right, I did notice this but useful that you have brought it to peoples attention. I suspect that the VSCC are (rightly) going to be strict on compliance to this new requirement.
Just between you and me, I have a PPE milk bottle that fits nicely on top of the chassis level with the oil filler and next to the oil catch tank. I extended the radiator overflow pipe with rubber hose and poked it through a hole in the lid down to the bottom of the bottle. If your radiator cap is sealed you will find that the expanded water that fills the bottle during a race will be drawn back into the radiator post race as it cools.
The C will typically expand/expel about one litre of water in the course of a race, if filled when cold.
You could of course paint the milk bottle black and then no one will notice......My catch tank is semi skimmed :-) !!!
Hope this helps....

I have a nice 1 litre blue hippopotamus bath toy stolen from my grandson strapped to the wing stay and connected to the rad cap overflow pipe. Understand Andrew Harrington has "broken ranks" and gone for a pink plastic pig.... well thats J2 owners for you ! FOZ |

Foz, Can you not solve the problem for everyone and attach some brushes to the lorry?

Marks idea looks good, but I have a fan behind the rad. My yellow rubber duck won't fit either. Looking forward to some more (serious) ideas. Graham |

Does it say that there has to be a separate catch tank ? Just re read the original post, but can't see why not !

Two points, so far this is a VSCC requirement.... not MGCC secondly when I raced the Rat in South Africa you did not need rad catch tanks BUT only water in the cooling system.....NO ADDITIVES. Its these that cause the problem as often they are non foaming detergents which make rubber/track grip vanish! FOZ I might have to use the green alligator ... the hippo objects ...... and if you have seen the back end of an angry hippo .... stand clear ! |

I was going to use an old bottle of Matey bubble bath...
My plan is to use a Tudor windscreen washer bottle & bracket from a Mk1 Sprite. I'll end up with a U bend at the bottom of the radiator overflow but, as long as the water doesn't end up on the track, I think that should be ok |
