My PA leaked oil (over the generator). We replaced the oil gallery with the already installed lip seal, ordered back then from Barry Walker. This cured the problem. Now the same thing is happening to the J2. Will the same part work? Is there a difference between the oil gallery on the J from the P? If so who makes them with the seal already in place for the J2 engine?

Mike

Have you had your casting machined up to also take a secondary seal in the base where the fork coupling centres. This also necessitates skimming off the scroll on the fork

Richard, the one I bought from Walker for the PA was the whole casting with the lip seal in place. the only thing needed to be machined was the scroll . Is this complete casting available for a J2, already machined with the lip seal in place? I assume it is a different part from the P type.

Hi Mike

I have just finished machining up a prototype new J type oil drain gallery for www.vintagemgparts.com stock although it has not as yet reached the website.

Drop me a line direct to discuss price and postage if you requite this one. Alternatively, Carl shows the solution to installing a seal in your existing housing.

On the one you have for your PA, if no secondary seal has been fitted in the base of the gallery then the scroll should not have been machined off, assuming the main seal was pressed into the top underside of the seal housing insert. The top seal runs onto the vertical drive pinion, the secondary seal runs on the fork (with oil scroll machined off).

Cheers

Would it be possible for the webmaster to look into making the website far far easier to download photos for people using Apple Macs. After trying for 45 mins odd each time to upload photos, it invariably does not work and instead shows a line of code.

Any advice much appreciated as life should be so much easier when doing this!
