Hi all; first time user of the MMM site, I have recently purchased 2M2712 M Type, and need an aluminium sump and brass carburettor. I would appreciate any advice on how to go about tracking these items down. I am doing a father son project, Dad has a 1930 M Type ( I just forget his chassis number) many thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards Brian |

Since MGL last year Barry has given up parts sales to concentrate on complete cars. His parts business has been taken over by The MG Automobile Company, http://mg-parts-spares.co.uk/ so they may be the people to contact?

Hi Brian,
If you can`t find a M-Type aluminium sump, you can also use a J2 sump, I think this is easier to get,

Before fitting an old sump it it is worth checking it is not porous. I filled a rebuilt engine only to find that the nice new 20/50 was leaking through in several places!
In the UK I have used Midland Impregnation who degrease castings and then under vacuum treat the object with an epoxy resin which seals any porous areas.
I think that this is preferable to using a paint like treatment on only the inside of the sump. |
