Hello all.
Having just read the type of music that Donald McLeod listens to whilst working on his projects,( please see the technical section ) I have to say that although I like all sorts of music, I find nothing more enjoyable when working on my MGs than listening to my Henry Hall or Al Bowley etc CDs to really put me in the 30s mood and almost imagine being on the Shop Floor at Abingdon in 1934 listening to the works radio.(did they have such a thing?)
Does anyone else have such experiences or is it me being rather silly?
Regards,
Chris. |

Al Bowlly (Sp)? Wasn't familiar with him so I just listened on You Tube, I see what you mean. Real period singer, tragic death in the Blitz.
I enjoy Fred Astaire singing in the same period. "Night and Day" number with Ginger Rogers in "Gay Divorcee". Music goes with 30's and the scene of Fred driving a J2 while chasing Ginger is just great.

They're a million miles apart but I like them equally
Anyone that likes Henry Hall will like Radio Dismuke

Who was it that said "traditional jazz is music to rebuild MGs!"

Russ,
I am very surprised you opt for a light genre type of music, shame on you. Myself whilst working in the Motor House would listen to the melodic tones of Slipknot, bless them, lovely lads and look after their Mums.

Thanks, great to hear I'm not alone on this aspect. With the MGs, it all started for me with my late father's account of his time at the end of WWII in the Fleet Arm Arm. On a visit to New York at the end of his training in Canada, he went to see The Glenn Miller Orchestra in New York. No seats left, he was offered a seat by a local, turned out to be best front seat. Wonder whose ticket it was? This spirit and music followed him to the UK, where his love for MGs grew, as the cars were popular with his squadron leaders. Spitfires and MGs seem to go together too, knowing about the late Sir Douglas Bader (his a TA, but there were plenty of Triple-Mers around at the time). PLenty of good music needed to maintain the spirit in the Fleet Air Arm, risky territory. Donald PB0759

Well it seems we’re all over the spectrum musically...I rely on my Playlists, but I keep coming back to my favourite band...Little Feat!, really works for me....if i’m not working on cars, I’m playing guitars...
