This photo of The Three Musketeers (L specials) appeared on the prewar Minor website, with due copyright acknowledgment to LAT Photographic, number C7830. Does anybody know where it was taken? Date is early 1936. Chap on the left is Jack Bastock (JB6866), and 3rd from left is Archie Langley (JB6867). Is MacDermid (JB6865) on the right? Any idea who the tall chap with the pipe is? Can anybody add anything? John R

Very intrigued by the dark spot in the O/S headlamps, something I've never seen before.

Chris,
Yes they are N type axles, with Q brake drums.

The dark spots were often used to signify that the cars had been through scrutineering for a particular event. The exact size, shape and colour would vary but the fact that the spots are so big makes me think it would be for a daytime club event rather than say the Exeter which is day and night. The Singer MCC event at Rushmere used a smaller one on the other lamp as you can see

Cars look clean so just after scrutineering?
Chap with pipe looks like Toulmin to me.
I don’t think the chap on the right is McDermid, but I am not sure as the only other pics I have seen are in car.
Regards, Graham

The team photo was taken before the start of the 1936 Kentish Border CC v. the North West London MC Trial. The photo is available from LAT and is printed from a glass negative.
