The Lightweight is a stunning piece of work. A real piece of history, beautifully engineered and hand rivetted body.
I do though wonder what 2018 would make of it if it was built today?

That Issigonis special was pretty radical at the time it was built, I believe it has rubber suspension. It is certainly very light and very rapid.

I have seen both the special at Prescott on many occasions and of course the Gunn family PB is an ongoing constant at the hill climb.

Thanks for the info. guys.

I must point out that I didn't take the photo.
I'm not sure where I got it from.

Now I wonder where he got that idea from and if he used it for any other car he may have built?

I believe that the rubber suspension of the Lightweight Special was contributed or developed by Alex Moulton - who in more recent years used the same technology in his Moulton bicycles.

Moulton rubber based suspension was used also in all Mini models and Austin Morris 1100/1300 models. Called Hydrolastic in this last range. It carried over in some form also to the first Metro and to the MGF which used Metro sub-frames front and rear to save development cost/time.
