I had this problem and my solution was to bore out the box oversize so as to just clean up the unworn lower half and take enough metal out at the top to produce a good bore. I then had to make oversize trunions with slightly offset slots to compensate for the offset bore. It was a long winded process but very satisfying when it turned out OK.
