Does anyone have, or know the whereabouts of, a pair of rear brake back plates together with finned drums for a 1932 car please
I already have the brake mechanism so it’s just the back plates and drums that I am looking for.
Looking forward to your reply.

Hello Jørgen
I have been in touch with Nigel Stroud and, unfortunately, the parts he has for sale are for an early car.
Thanks for your interest in my search.
Regards
Chris

Hello Jørgen
I’m not sure if there is any difference between early and late back plates.
But what I do know is that the rear backplates on my car are different. One measures 8 3/4” and the other 9 1/2”. I suspect that the larger diameter one is original as that is the same as the front, which has the finned drums.
Whilst the brakes I have will undoubtedly work I am keen to get the correct set up and that means finned brake drums for the rear and at least one new backplate.
Thanks for your interest.
Regards
Chris

Yes, it could be. It would be easier to fit now whilst I have the back axle on my workbench. Finned brake drums would be easy to fit at a later date.
How much do you want for it?
Thanks
Chris

They could be but I am not sure about the fixing holes. Any chance you could send me a picture with measurements?
On the M type the diameter of the central hole is 3 1/4” and the distance, measured diagonally across the centre line of the studs, is 4”.
If the drums you have, and turn out to fit, how much would you want for them?
Regards
Chris

I think the J type drums will be the same size as the M type but as the J has knock on hubs they won't have the 3 holes for the wheel studs.

Hi,
J drums can be made to fit, but you need the larger back plates, 3 Special countersunk screws and 3 spacers per drum. Not as bad as it sounds but still not straight forward.

Hello Garry
Alan McNab has an M type backplate measuring 9 13/16” which I have agreed to buy from him.
Are the J type backplates larger than this?
If so, I’ll carry on looking for a pair on M type finned drums.

Hi Chris,
I will check tomorrow and let you know, but I think that is the J size.

Hi Chris,
The M type size is 9" diameter backplates. If you go down the J2 drum route it is possible to remove the last fin , thus allowing use with the original back plate.
