I have just been conversing with the one time owner of M-type DG 4888 chassis number C/M32227. Thanks to Christopher Dancey this car has been discussed before in 2015 under M Type 1931 DG 4888 and before that in 2013 under MG M or J ..Registration no. FD 9892 (there was a slight mix up about the number).
It seems the car still exists but can anyone add anything further? The ex owner (who is currently rebuilding a J2) would really like to hear about what has become of the car.

Sam - a touch of the judders maybe, but the car with that reg number is recorded on the register as CM3227.
If it is that car, we know that it was originally a coupe but had been changed to a two seater with square back by the time it was offered for sale for sale in a 1984 Sotheby's Auction. Reached £600!
It had been laid up for 18 years before the sale. Nothing has been heard of it heard since then.

Yes, the chassis number is CM3227. New reading glasses needed.
The ex owner tells me he was 16 years old when the M-type became his but it was later disposed of in his absence and without his approval. He fitted the Ford engine. The coupe body was mostly missing and he built a J2 style body on the chassis complete with a rear mounted petrol tank. He owned the car for about five years.

Here are pictures of DG 4888 when owned by Barry Robinson when he got it at the age of sixteen around 1954/1955. Barry currently owns a J2 which he is rebuilding. He would love to find his old M-type again.

Barry has forwarded some more pictures of DG 4888 from between 1955 and 1959. At that time he lived at 85 Clays Lane, Branston, Near Burton on Trent .
