I just came across this, shot in my student days in London. It's in Notting Hill Gate, probably not far from Pembridge Crescent. I recorded the date but not the precise location. I wonder if it still exists.

Hi Joe

Nostalgic picture of how the streets of London used to look.

The Registration number does not appear in the printed Register.

The factory file shows AWT 698 was the Registration number for PA2025 which was delivered to Mr W R A Breare, Filey, Yorkshire on 24th June 1935. There is no other info except the engine is fitted to another PA.

Rather touching that somebody has fitted a t series style light, badge bar and slatted grille in an effort to keep up! . I’m thinking of doing the opposite to my TC at the moment

Hello Joe.

Your picture vividly reminds me of one dark rainy night in the back streets of York in the 1960s when, as a young Police Officer I came across a parked MG PA.

During my tour of duty I kept going back to look at the car again and again I was so fascinated with it !

I easily traced the owner next day and ended up buying it but it took a lot of haggling. ( I think the car still exists in Bristol.)

Thanks for showing it.

Chris.

The 1982 Register lists AWT 698 as being at Steyning.
No owners name listed
The memory fades - but was Steyning Mr. Walkers' premises ??

If I remember rightly, High Street at Steyning was Terry & Barry Bones's address.
In those days the "Mekka" for MMM-lers ?

Thanks George, for the chassis no. and the original owner information. At least a little bit of it still lives on!

I think it was only Barry Bone who lived at Steyning. We met him , really by accident , when we were on holiday and staying just outside the village. We had a pleasant hour with him looking at his ex-Bira F-type and other cars he had there. Loads of old crankshafts and other parts stuffed under benches , l seem to remember.
Terry lived ,and still does l believe , at Chailey
The ‘Bone Yard ‘ was in the London area ....... forgotten where , at the moment.

Hello Chris,
Are you talking about AWT 698 which might still be in Bristol? There could still be hope.
If it went near the "Bones", though, it could have ended up in the US.

The address for finding a host of spares/cars for sale was S H Richardson & Sons of Moore Lane, Staines.

I spent quite a bit of time rummaging around looking for spares for my PA! If only I had had a big barn and the foresight to have purchased spares etc.

The old Exchange & Mart magazine was another source of useful info.

Hello, Joe.

I have just checked and I am pretty sure my PA was OW6541 and the last I heard it was owned by Fred Wheeler in Bristol. We were in touch for a while but it was a long time ago.

Best wishes,

Chris.

In Fact Terry and Barry operated together in Steyning from somewhere in the High Street, can't remember where but it was on the north side and I think opposite the small car park which is still there. They then moved to Greenwich and as I remember it was after that that they split up and Barry moved back to Steyning, to Quoins, Jarvis Lane.

I'm not sure how useful Georges barn would be.

I never managed to find anything usable at Richardsons, there was a theory that they kept the good stuff hidden, so I once took my girlfriend along (on the way to the equally bizarre Ricky-Tick club nearby)*. Even she could not get anything useful, so maybe all the good bits had gone by 1968.

We are so lucky to have S and V and Blockley etc.

* I'm pleased to see that some of the favourites from the Ricky Tick, Georgie Fame, Geno Washington, Zoot Money, can be seen in good condition and undoubtedly greater comfort today.

Hi John

I must be getting ancient, I was rummaging around the Richardson's yard for spares in about 1959/60!!

I bought the PA from them in at that time.
