Having swallowed my pride and bought a trailer I'm now looking at how best to insure it against loss/damage. My regular car insurance policy covers me for towing but not for loss/damage to the trailer. However my initial efforts at finding loss/damage insurance would suggest that this is a market full of sharp practice, if not outright scams. While you can insure your car online with minimal hassle, trailer insurance always seems to require that someone calls you to discuss this supposedly complex issue (yeah, right) which inevitably seems to lead to a sales pitch for the Datatag system, not to mention ridiculous premiums. (How can loss/damage insurance for a £3000 trailer cost more than fully comprenshive insurance for a J2?)
What do fellow Triple-M'ers do?

An interesting suggestion, Ian. I hadn't thought of that so I'll check it out.
Many thanks.

A quick check on my policy documents online reveals that motorised vehicles and their trailers are not covered.

Simon I have the PB insured with Hagerty who, I found out afterwards, will include my trailer for hno extra charge once I had provided photo evidence and plate number. Regards Tim

Tim,
Many thanks. The J2 is insured with Hagerty and I had intended to give them a ring.

Indeed, my Hagerty policy does cover the trailer - thanks for the tip, Tim - but only just as it’s lomited to trailers less than 4.6 metres which is pretty small.

Simon That's 4.6 metres bed length which is quite long, 15 foot bed. Not overall length. Regards Tim

Thanks, Tim. Indeed a quick check with Hagerty (just to be sure, to be sure!) confirmed what you have said, i.e. it's bed length, not overall length. I must say, I find Hagerty very good to deal with and this has simply reaffirmed this.

Hagerty has been a real treat to deal with here in the US. They have been a sponsor of many of the NAMMMR events, giving out nice pens, paid for having shirts made for all MMM owners and special shirts for the officers, renting a 40 X 20 foot tent for the NAMMMR at Watkins Glen, giving out two $500 discount coupons for their insurance, etc. They have been a major supporter and pleasant to deal with. No, I am not an employee of theirs, just a very satisfied customer.
