after copying frames and enhancing the images I have to date identified two of the MG's in the 1933 Scottish Sporting Car Club film showing many mmm cars in trials in 1933. cars Identified are FS4009 which is F2 1433 and FS 6617 which is J2 3463 (the J at 15:55 into the film).(the F at 5:37 in)
other number plates provisionally identified as FS1760, FS8767, GG464, JH8294, XJ8926,FS3566 and or FS3569, FS1706, SS3565 or 3566, GG9080, GB3590, GG9888, JH8294, GG6041, JK2647, US1344.
we were excited in finding another trial event for the F2 as it is the car I gifted to my sons after purchasing it in 2017, the car had been stored in a shed since 1975 (in Aus)

What a wonderful film, it's great to see our cars being used as CK intended. Thank you so much Westly for making this unique footage available.
If you want to join in the fun it's not too late to enter the Kimber Classic trial, details under events.

Hi Peter.
In your post you say this is the 1933 Trial but I think it must be the 1934 SSCC Highland Trial. At about 13 minutes you can see my old J3 HH6711 which was being driven by Leslie Robson the first owner.
In March 33 he entered the car in the Scottish 6 Days Trial and won a Silver award. At that stage photos show it was still painted in its original white. However in correspondence with him he confirmed that over the winter of 33/34 he re painted the car Alfa red, fitted the outside exhaust and panelled in the doors to make it in to what he called J4 lookalike Brooklands racer.

In the footage the car is clearly not white and has the outside exhaust so this is not 1933 but most likely the March 34 SSCC 2 day Highland Trial or possibly even the April 35 2 Day Highland Trial which he also entered and was awarded "Best 1500cc Visitor ".

Great film though. The car just after the HH 6711 footage is also a J3 but I cannot work out the registration number. Maybe someone has the entry list for 34 so we can work it out from there.

Terry

Hi Terry, yes you are right I believe its OCT 1934 (anniversary trial) where your car is listed, apologies for any confusion. yes I did notice a possible J3 in the film at about 13:38 in, car 10 with the spotlight. plate number looked like GG9888

attached entry (showing L Robson)

FS8767 (or is it FS8787?) at 25:23 appears to be a PA and so that would mean that it was filmed in 1934 at the earliest.

A great and very interesting bit of history.
