Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this car?

I stumbled across it while searching the history on my car and would love to know if it's still about, if so I might have some information for the current owner.

Cheers,
Daniel (J4213)

Daniel and Forum:

A start to the story.See link.
DVLA is aware of car. More then most searches provide.

It’s J3158, originally blue with blue upholstery, sold through Wadham Bros in Waterlooville, Hampshire and registered on 13 April 1933 to a Mr G Dawkins of Southampton. Sold one year later to E Brown and after that ... nothing.

But apparently alive according to the DVLA database.

Register 3608, so a fairly recent one. You should find photos there too. I will pass your note on to the owner Daniel.

Thank you all that has been very helpful. Mr G Dawkins was also the fist owner of my J2 and I am in contact with is Family. They will be thrilled to know this car is still about as well.

Cheers,
Daniel

Daniel,

I think the factory chassis file must show the second owner, perhaps from correspondence. Do you have the file for your J2?

I do thanks Simon and no such luck on the second owner for me. The search continues. I understand the the Southampton records still exist, my folks are on holiday on the UK right now and I have twisted their arm to go and investigate. Might not tell me anything new but worth a try.

I'm working backwards as well, my Mum kept a diary and had the exact details of the day she brought the car and from that I found the newspaper Ad for the car, so off to try search the 1966 NZ telephone book by number - should be fun. haha

Cheers,
Daniel

Daniel, it would appear that Mr Dawkins only kept J3437 for six months, was there a problem or did he simply prefer the swept wings carried by the later car?

Graham

Graham,

I don’t think Mr Dawkins owned J3437 - that was my Dad's car.

Note to self: Read answer before passing enter.

I should of course have said J3158, I must have glanced at your previous note when checking the number...apologies for any confusion!

Regards,
Graham

Hi Graham,

Yes, you're right he did seem to only keep J3158 for a short period, he brought my J2 (J4213) on the 21st of November 1933. Talking with the his family it seems he did love cars and regularly swapped them for newer models, so I suspect nothing was wrong he just wanted a newer car, and as you say maybe liked the swept wings. Whilst very nice to learn a little more, selfishly having tracked down the family they only have photo's of J3158 and as yet nothing of mine....maybe he kept that for an even shorter period, I have now idea.

Cheers,
Daniel

Well miracle's do happen, thanks to the records in the Southampton archives I have now learnt the last UK owner of my car (and perhaps the only other UK owner) was an E Edmunds of Church Rd, Boscombe and the car was exported on the 6/1/1938...
