Hello, Rod and Dick.

I have also been trying to trace Mike Zimmerman, apparently he competed in my ex Leonard N type AYT 197 in the 1950s. I would be very pleased to be able to learn more about my car’s history from that period and would much appreciate contact with Mike.

Many thanks,

Chris

I have seen JJ 5117 on flying days at Old Warden on a number of occasions. I believe it has a supercharged EXPAG engine.

JJ 5117 is listed as J2084.

Mike Zimmerman used to own an N type with similar body, I may be wrong but believe it did have a supercharged XPAG engine. It also had a name painted on the bonnet side, the body colour was red. I cannot recall the name!

I have checked the files - the N type is NA0703. It was painted black, had “The N type Special” painted on the bonnet and a supercharged XPAG engine.

I believe Mike might have sold the car to Phil Cornut?

JJ 5117 pictured above has a side mounted Eaton supercharger, a T type front axle and P type brakes amongst other things. I had a nose around it after spotting an oil cooler mounted below the radiator. It is listed by the DVLA as a silver J2 manufactured in 1932 but registered in 2012 and has a 1250 cc cylinder capacity. Note the exhaust pipes on the "wrong side." (unless it was DOHC which it is not.)

If XPAG engine then exhaust is on the "correct side"!

Wrong side for an MMM, unless it is a DOHC

For Information :-

Thanks to Dick Morbey I have had an interesting telephone conversation with Mike Zimmerman. Super chap to speak with, however, unfortunately I had been given some false information and he hadn’t had any contact with my car. It seems there must have been some confusion with Mike’s own N type as mentioned by George. (See above.)

Thank you,

Chris
