Max, I think it would resolve matters if your God Father, Gordon Rae, could say if he remembers driving UW 5990 at the VSCC Bisley trial/rally in 1950. Could that be him at the wheel? Probably not - just another dead end in my search for information about my Father's M Type.
The G.J. Rae who achieved silver in the '34 Colmore Trial must have had a different first name beginning with G. I doubt he is still alive now but possibly a relative of your God-father? The only link with the driver of UW 5990 seems to be a fondness for wearing a beret! |

I also am confused! How do we know that the chassis number of the Colmore trial car is 2m 3352, please? May we see a full picture of the M with the correct windscreen, which is on the Colmore. There is a picture in the Nation Motor Museum, picture number 2012/P/881, of "OG 4024 " on the Colmore with G. L. Rae. I do not have a copy of this picture! Could it be Gordon's Dad in the Colmore?

I can't help with the actual car.
However, I would bet heavily that the driver is G.J.Rea. The photo below shows him driving in the '34 Colmore trial. Entrant # 96. M type 2m 3352. He was fond of wearing his beret on events. His passenger is J.W. Wathes. They were both associated with "Imperial Motor Mart" in Cheltenham.
I have an interest with Rea and Wathes, as they both drove/trialed my PA. If you find any other information on him I'd be pleased to receive it.
Brian
In case anyone was unaware, 'Imperial Motor Mart' was an MG dealership I believe. |

If you wish to make a search on this site enter any registration number. NO SPACE eg. AA123
I recently was told that one good search is to Google a registration number. This brought up a direct link to my PA. DG 8927. on the M.P.L. Site. This site is run by Beaulieu Motoring Library. Recently they have just completed downloading 5000 photos in to digital format. This includes the fabulous complete Brunel Collection. Considering the amount of work that these guys have done to provide us this access to them, I don't believe that a copy of them should be distributed anywhere. I'm sure you'll all agree with me on this.
Photos cost 10 pounds for an 8'' X 6''. Shipping worldwide for free. Bonus to us overseas is no dreaded VAT.
Have fun, plenty prewar MG there.
Happy New Year to All.............
Brian.

I see that on 27th December 2014 above, someone asked "Was G. L. Rae related to N. W. Rae who drove a Salmson in 1929 on the Exeter, Edinburgh and Lands End trails as well as the Gloucester and Brighton Beer trials."
Unlikely I think, though N.W. Rae was my father
