Hi.

According to local South African records , I note that C0257 ( known as Hoodoo ) broke the World 750 cc ( Class H ) 5 km. standing start speed record at 110.28 mph. This was in the hands of.E Eldridge as Georg Eyston was indisposed after EX 120 had burned out on the Monthlery Circuit.
Hoodoo was fitted with a single seater body at this stage , having just completed the BRDC 500 mile race at Brooklands.

I have a few requests: Does anyone have photos of Hoodoo fitted with the single seater body ? And what colour was she painted ?

Secondly , I’m interested to find the original reference to C0257 breaking the 5Km. Record on 17th. Oct 1931. Neither The Hawke History nor Mikes “ Small Car Racing and Record Breaking” refer directly to this achievement.

Any help in finding other references will be appreciated.
Regards.

Rod.

Wasn't that the speed he achieved in EX127. Bill Boddy's Montlhery book gives the date as a rather intriguing 31st September 1931

Is this it Rod? The photo is taken from Dick Knudson's book MG Record Breakers.

I read that there were 3 MG’s at Monthlery at the end of 1931. EX 120. , EX127 and C0257 which was fitted with a s/s body. A month or so earlier, C0257 wore this s/s body in the BRDC500 mile race.

I think the photo above is EX127.

EX127 on October 17th 1931 according to the Seherr-Thoss report - based on official AIACR and FIA records.

An absolute treasure trove of downloadable official record-breaking documents:

https://www.fia.com/land-speed-record-archives

The Class H records can be found on page 64 of the report (which is page 68 of the PDF!)
