I have tried various arrangements on different cars. I don't like the feel of the Bowden cable type set up and much prefer to use a rod and bell crank connection as in Davids photo. I think this gives a more positive action and a better feel to the throttle.
One issue occurs if you bend the main rod as per the works J3 photos because this causes it to snake and it then requires a support to keep the operation smooth.
If you are operating the choke on the carburettor then the cable works very well and is much easier to set up.
