Is the English registration number MG6770 a J2?

Sounds like a University Motors supplied car (assuming it's the original Registration Number) :)

Hi Cathelijne, thank you. I found a drawing and if this car was actually there you could give an assignment. The drawing may be provided with the English fantasy registration MG6770.

Will add it to the database as an unidentified J2 with an added question mark as to the authenticity of the registration number. |

Hi Cathelijne, the drawings are shown in 1975 by Max Millar and Bernt Johan Scheffler (Norway) in the Norwegian MG newspaper Humbug Spezial 1979/1980. Designed by the editor Bernt Johan Scheffler from Norway. Mr. Bernt Johan Scheffler was in possession of the J2693 from February 1967. The J2 was in poor condition and was completely disassembled. I couldn't find out whether it would be completed after so many years. He is said to still be in Norway. The J2693 was already affectionately called "Florrie" by its previous owner Halvor Westgaard (1964 to February 1967).

I stand to be corrected, but the highest MG registration number which was registered from new on a J2 was MG 3378 and was allocated to J3094, sold on 12/06/34.
J4362 with MG 3165 was sold on 28/03/34.
MGs with MG registration numbers MG 6XXX were SVWs and TA/TBs.
J2693 was exported new to Norway, so would not have been registered from new in the UK.

Prints of this drawing were for sale in the Bourton-in-the-Water motor museum shop when I visited, with my J2, in the late 1970s. I bought one and it is still on the wall in my workshop. I had a long conversation with the curator at the time and there was a back story to it which I am afraid I have forgotten. There was a red cycle wing J2 in the museum. Whether that was the car, I cannot recall. |
