I am trying to source some suitable tubing 5/8" OD and 0.10" ID. Original was chrome plated steel but I guess it could be brass or even stainless. The only 5/8" OD tubing I can find has a much thinner wall and I don't think will be up to the job. The tie-bar must get a lot of stick in use as the chassis flexes. On my car the original had fractured on both sides at the point where there is a slot for a pinch bolt and the stubs, which were rusted in, were very difficult to remove from the wingstays.
Any ideas? |

I faced the same problem recently. I found some marine grade polished stainless steel tube via eBay (Wall Thickness: 1.5mm, Outside Diameter (OD): 15.88mm (5/8"), Length: 1000mm). I wondered whether the wall thickness would be adequate but, when it arrived, it was clear that the tube is perfectly robust enough.
