I hope some kind owner out there will be able to help me out.....
I need to realign the vertical dynamo drive on my M-Type and I am searching for the alignment tool / spigot / mandrel that is necessary for completing this work.
Does anyone have one that I can borrow / buy...or even just a drawing of one so that I can have one made.
Hi Matt, There is another way of doing it that may be considered more accurate. Simply screw an appropriate adaptor on the top of the dynamo and attach a dial indicator to it to get the alignment spot on. I have used the method many times with total success and no problems or failures over many years. With patience you can achieve concentricity to very fine limits.
The alignment bar is 1.375 inch or 1 and 3/8 inch diameter available from suppliers such as metals4u. 35mm diameter is close. It does work well but not as precisely as using instruments.
Ian The block, front housing and head do not always line up perfectly. Especially when mixing and matching castings originally not belonging to one engine the misalignment can wreak havoc on the vertical drive. Realignment and fitting new locating dowels can be needed
