hi all, I am rebuilding an M type from boxes. The bonnet catches I believe are specific to M types. I have 6 but some parts are very worn, if anyone has any oddments that they would give up to the cause, for a price of course, I may be able to improve what I have and make a full set. Specifically I am missing two of the hooks that the catches latch on to. Here's hoping. Brian

Brian, What year is your car, there are only four on the round wing cars, six on the helmet wing cars. Regards, Garry |

and the bonnet catches and apron catches are different in their 'bottom' component. For instance, the one you have shown is a bonnet catch as the bonnet side slips into the 'groove' in the bottom component. I commissioned these to be made new some years ago (when restoring my M Type) and are available from Willie McKenzie, Austin Reproduction Parts - http://austinrepro.com/specialised-products/
Hope that helps.

Thank you both for the information. The car is a late 1932 metal bodied and definitely had 6 catches originally. As well as the ones I have being quite worn I seem to be missing the two'keep' parts that go on the front valance, I had assumed they were the same as for the bonnet but maybe not, and thanks for the supplier contact, maybe I'll treat the car to a couple of new ones. Brian, the two "keep" parts that are on the front valence are identical to those used on the bonnet. The valence catches are different only in that they do not have the end that turns up to hold the bottom edge of the bonnet. It is my belief that originally the factory just sawed this bit off. The 3 M types that I have owned which I bought back in the 1960s all had the front valence catches sawn in this way so that you can see the sawn edge with no chroming on it. I reckon you should be able to get these from Willie McKenzie. Good luck. Keith |

Keith & all, Thank you for the information, now I understand, I do have two catches that have the the turned up end sawn off, and I assumed a previous owner was guilty! So I just need to find or buy two more keeps, or set to and make them. Thanks Brian |
