Having made a manifold for a bitsa 1932 car I find that there isn't enough clearance for the sidedraught SU without hitting the bonnet side panel. Does anyone have a downdraught carb or even just the suction chamber and piston? I have the body with a broken lug but seem to have lost/sold/given away the chamber. They were fitted to a few pre war Rovers and Singers, if that helps.

. Rovers did lay their SUs on their side ( photo of my 10hp ) is this what you were looking for ?

Great! Thanks, Chris. I have a decent spindle and disc and a float chamber, if that helps. Not sure how the Rover suction chamber goes together. Assume it takes a spring but no damper weight? |

Hello, I am attaching a couple of photos of the spare carb.which is from a pre-war Rover. I do not know the condition of the carb as it came as part of a cache of spares from one of my Rover projects.
If it is what you want let me know, nothing is missing ( as far as I can see ).

Ahhhh. Paphos. Regular trip for us out of Cardiff in the summer. Maybe I could bring the J-type back for you. One piece at a time!

If we are in residence when you visit, you drop in for a G & T, bring your swimmies, although not in August, its too hot and humid then. How big is your suitcase ? The J2 may still be in our lounge at this time ( our garage is'nt yet finished ).

Finally got it finished. Dropped one specialised bolt behind the workbench where it can't be reached so I had to make a new one. Armed with info from Mr Kimber on this site I worked out which bits of jet tube were wrong and exchanged some bits from a knackered SU so it all fits together. Thanks for the offer of a spare if I couldn't sort it out from here, Mr K.

Wow !! Looks great. Glad that I was able to help, I never thought that joining the MMM fraternity would also involve my Rover connections.

Obviously it is looking better than it did in the 'before' photo but it is still not as tidy looking as the one on your Rover, Chris. How did you polish the carb body? It seems to be a different, heavier material than later carbs. The dashpot is a cast aluminium alloy by the looks of it but the main body is more like Mazak. I've avoided polishing it too much since the surface is blistering and just blasted it with fine glass beads. |
