Hello,
I'm new here on this forum.
I am looking for two 11 inch rear back plates like the front one on the photo:
Note: The location of the cylinder is at the other side, so not were the holes for attachment to the axle are wide (as on the photo) but were these holes are narrow.
The axle was with a abandoned Qtype project that I bought a few years ago, and I don't have a clue what axle it is. Does anybody have an idea?? Thank you Erik van Hardeveld The Netherlands

Is there a list anywhere of the matching/useable brake systems? There are quite a few Wolseley/MG/Morris brakes that could fit. I'm short of a couple of cylinders for some of mine but they aren't easily identifiable.
Erik. Your brakes are the size of the ones on the right of my picture but the wheel cylinders seem to have the bolt spacing of the ones to the left.

Erik, Could be MG TA/TC. Single pivot on bottom, single hydraulic brake cylinder on top, missing the two shoe adjuster cams where the rusted holes appear in your photo? If you give me more dimensions, I can compare to brake front and back plates I have spare for the TA/TC. Bob, Canada

Hello, George and Cardiffrob, Thank you for your rapid reactions. Sorry, but when I wrote 11 inch I meant the outside of the backplate; if I take the inside of the drum it is 9 inch. (see photo) this probably means, that these are 9 inch brakes??
Cardiffrob, if this means, that the red ones are this same size (9 inch), then these seem to be the ones I need. Are these from a Wolseley? And do you want to sell them?? I go to Stoneleigh in 2 weeks, so perhaps something can be arranged.
By the way, new (bronze) cylinders for these are available in Holland ( www.ccparts.nl)I can possibly bring the cylinders if needed.
Looking forward,
Erik |

Hello Bob,
Aren't the centre holes in a TA/TC backplate placed in a square? In my axle these are placed in a trapezium (see photo)

If not TC, maybe Morris family 8, circa 1934?
The Wolseley drums are much bigger. |

Nick, I was cursing my computer for having "dropped " the item from Technical :-) All OK now. Erik, Yes, TC rear back plates have square hole mounting 2-1/4" between centers top and bottom. Hole for brake cylinder is small, about 3/4" diameter. There is also a slot for the handbrake cable. Front TC back plate is as your photo, 11" OD, for 9" brakes, 2-1/4" between top holes, 1-1/2" between bottom holes, wheel cylinder hole is 1-5/8". Again, I think you have a TC front plate without the cam adjusters. All measurements are approximate, made with a tape measure in freezin' cold attic of my garage. Bob, Canada |

Hello Bob en Rob,
So, what I am looking for is 9 inch REAR backplates with trapezium shaped holes (not square) with the large cylinderhole on the opposite side. Do they exist at all in 9 inch???
They also have to be "dished" to the inside (as on the photo); I already had flat ones welded up and trapezium rebored, but that leaves too few space and the drum hits the backplate.
I found Morris 10 plates last year in Beaulieu, but these also have square shaped holes and are not "dished".
Hope somebody can help me.
Erik

Erik, I just tried a TC front brake plate on the rear axle housing of a J2/L2. Fits perfectly, all bolt holes line up, including locating hole on axle housing, EXCEPT, wheel cylinder is on the bottom. Wonder if that matters as the wheel cylinders work backwards and forwards. Bob, Canada |

Noticed that the 9 inch brakes shown above (red paint) have 2 different pivots for the shoes, not one as per the TC. Mine are front brakes. |
