I came across this ad in The Automobile magazine dated Jan 1986 and thought it might be of interest ...?
Particularly liked the ulster/dublin green colour combination of the J2....

From Top left across...

Sorry for dredging this one up from the depths; does anyone know what the serial/chassis number of the J2 JD 2581 is? And any history after Walker sold it?
Thanks!

I show it as J0363 which would make it a J1, not a J2. However, according to my records it is (still) with Joan Miller in New Hampshire and does have a J2 body.

Lew, thanks! That number squares with what we were told but we couldn’t understand why it was claimed to be a J2.

30 years ago it was acceptable to describe cars like that, whereas now you would say something like "rebuilt to J2 spec on a genuine J1 chassis - probably quoting the number as well. Back then, dealers often used a "stock photo" as well if it wasn't anything exotic. |

JD 2581 is coming up for auction in NH Memorial Day weekend, and I’m considering my first foray into prewar MGs. Am I reading right that this car is not a genuine J2?

John,
JD 2581 was the original Registration Number for J0363 which started life as a J1 4 seat tourer.

Anyone buy it? For a while this car was listed as no reserve, so I was going to go and hope for a steal. The it grew a reserve and an estimate so I didn’t drive up. |

It went for somewhere around 21,000 USD (not including reserve).

Cris, If you can find out from Joan or the auction (?) company who bought J0363, I would appreciate knowing (for the Register historical record). Thanks.
