I really do believe that looking at ancient vehicles as an investment is no longer a realistic option. Possibly for a few such as Bugatti Alfa and Bentley they will manage ..... for most of the others rather like Brown Victorian Furniture the market will fall flat. For the remaining few enthusiasts driving the old vehicles will become the raison d’etre . Enjoy it but do not regard it as a pension investment, that is my view. Barmby in my view correctly predicts that individual ownership of cars will decline as they are likely to become lesser items of wealth expression. Possibly high end watches are an option ....... mine is a Timex.

Thanks for all the comments but the thread seems to have got sidetracked onto car values!
Just to reiterate and expand on the original topic.
We are looking for a J2, PA,, PB, for a 23 year old who is very keen to use an OHC car to drive, sprint, race. Our budget is 20-30k, I hope this is realistic even if it is disappointing to some people. I posted on here as sometimes cars change hands without coming on the open market. Happy to pay a fair price for a fair car if anybody can help.
I’ll be racing at VSCC Silverstone so will try and catch up with some MG drivers.
Have a good weekend, I’ll be in the garage!
Cheers Bruce

Blimey - “symbols of wealth expression”!!!
I hope the only expressions my aged vehicles symbolise are: “I am mildly eccentric but approachable” and “I may be able to fix your lawn mower”..
More power to the arms of those young enough and rich enough (simultaneously if possible) to go racing: that does look like a blast.

If you're still looking this would seem perfect. I've no connection to it!

This is a tough little 1934 MG PA that has had much expenditure on it by a previous owner specifically to create a competent sporting trials car.  Thought to have originally been supplied with a 4 seater body it was rebuilt between 2007 and 2014 using a new ash frame by Enrique Llinares and is skinned with steel panels. The chassis was shot blasted before painting and the 19”wheels were rebuilt and powder coated in green.

The engine was rebuilt by MG expert Ken Robinson using a new cylinder block, Venolia pistons, new cylinder head, rocker gear and camshaft.  A Phoenix crankshaft and con rods were supplied by Baynton James. In the interests of reliability the clutch was uprated, and a stronger Morris differential was fitted to the back axle . The brakes have recently been relined and the steering overhauled .

This work generated substantial bills totalling just shy of £16,000, which are included in the thick history file. The car was accepted by the VSCC and appears to have competed in various trials and a couple of hill climbs.

The body and trim, while sound, could be improved upon but is in a perfectly usable condition as is.  Last used competitively in 2017 the PA is well sorted car that deserves to be used as intended without worrying about mud and rain.

Offered here for half the cost of a trailer queen PA, but guaranteed to be a lot more fun! We think it will appeal to the owner who wants a car to compete in, but should also expect to be able to drive home in it afterwards -perhaps with a trophy and a smile!
