Okay, so this Barnes chappie built himself a 750cc special and went racing and speed trialling with it during 1949 and 1950.

(Some of) the events he took part in:
Lulsgate, 16 April 1949, race no. 26
Prescott, 24 April 1949
VSCC Silverstone, 2 July 1949, race no. 20
Goodwood, 13 August 1949, race no. 16
Blandford, 27 August 1949, race no. 12
Brighton, 3 september 1949, race no. 205
Lulsgate, 15 April 1950, race no. 14
Beechwood, 14 May 1950, race no. 28
Tewin Water, 18 June 1950, race no. 18
VSCC Silverstone, 24 June 1950, race no. 103
Tewin Water, 7 August 1950, race no. 11

Does anyone have (or know of someone who does) any pics of any of the above events, please? Preferably showing this Barnes M.G. of course ... Time to dig out those box brownie snaps you (or your Dad or uncle or grandad or neighbour) took when you were still tiny and digitise them while you're stuck indoors anyway!

Anything else relating to this 'case' most welcome too!

Many thanks,
Cat

Cat. According to "The Hawke Book". Barnes was a Sports Car Dealer in South London and in 1955/56 he bought J4006 and sold it fairly rapidly, having swapped the J4 engine for a Ford 10 engine. The J4 engine was said to have been fitted into a J1 special. Barnes certainly appeared at Brighton Speed Trials in 1948, 49 and 50 driving an M.G. fitted with a 746cc engine. In 1948 he had comp number 120 and the car was blown and was timed at 37.61 secs. In 1949 he had comp number 205 and the car was unblown and was timed at 41.49 seconds which gave him 2nd place in his class. In 1950 he had comp number 189, the car was again unblown and his time was 40.97 secs. In 1948 and 1950 I have notes that the car was J2700 although I don't know where that came from. Quite possibly, from Mike Hawke. As to photographs, a likely source could be the Guy Griffiths Collection which has recently moved to a new website "theguygriffithscollection.com". Also the Brighton dates could well suggest that Ferret Fotographic might have some, but how you can access them, I have no idea. Best wishes, Colin

Thanks, Colin, trust you to come up with a useful reply! The Guy Griffiths and Ferret Fotographic collections have been exhaustively combed through, I believe, so it's more people's personal snaps I'm after. A bit like these Allan Bentley came up with a couple of years ago: https://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/pop_printer_friendly.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=6334

Seeing as Lulsgate is mentioned, have you asked Pete Stowe?
