During the current lockdown we've been treated to quite a few photos of members' cars, but very few of the owners. Speaking as someone who rarely gets to meet other members, and who also has a bad memory for faces, I'd like to suggest to the committee that we set up a topic, or perhaps an additional section under "Photos" in the Home page, for photos of members (and their partners).
This could then be something else to keep us occupied during the lockdown, and help us keep friends in mind, and get to know by sight people who regularly post here, but whom we have never met.
As a further thought, photos could perhaps be added to members' profiles, and if Nick is willing and able, could even appear under the name of each author.
I realise that not everyone would want their face showing each time they post, and that there may be privacy issues, but I think it is something the committee could consider.
What do you all think? Here's my attempt, FWIW.

Hi Colin
What a great idea!
There are some precedents such as the two photos posted of the much missed Peter Green in K3011.

Colin, As someone who never remembers a name but always forgets a face, I’d say your idea certainly has some merit. And just so that you and Barbara aren’t left on your own here, I’ll offer this picture from Pre War Prescott last year of Sandra and me with number four grandson, Noah, who can’t wait to be taken out for a proper drive in the J2. “I’ll have to be ten before we can go on the road, won't I” he said last week!
P.S. Note Ms Spoelstra in the background.

Thanks for your support, Simon, and great photo, but where is everyone else? Too shy?

Prior to seeking permission from the Committee, how would you imagine that would work? A separate file for each member that only they could access to upload (one or more) pictures of themselves? A separate forum where anyone can upload pictures of anyone (might be hard to search for an individual). Something else?

In most fora you can add an avatar (small picture shown with the forum name) Perhaps there is a provision in this forum software? Activate that and everyone is free to show their face or not.
Another solution is to join facebook and see who is a member of one of the many triple M groups

I could possibly add the avatar feature. What does everyone think? Nick

An avatar is fine but having anything to do with Facebook is definitely not!

I'm most probably not alone in this, but what is an 'avatar feature' in the context of this website - explain please?

It is a small picture, usually under your name, of you, your car or whatever.

I agree with having an avatar PROVIDING it is not the tiny little things as seen, or barely seen, on the VSCC forum. Have to wait until post lockdown haircut though .

I'm in favour of an avatar, and I agree with Terry that it needs to be big enough to be recognisable, and preferably should be a photo of the member, not an animal, a cartoon, (as happens in many other fora) or indeed the car. I'm also in favour of a separate photo gallery along the lines of, as Nick said, "A separate file for each member that only they could access to upload (one or more) pictures of themselves?" This could be accessed perhaps as a sub-folder of the "Pictures" folder in the Home page. Ideally I think it should be in alphabetical order of surname, or failing that, of Forum name.
Ultimately it's up to Nick and the committee - these are just my own thoughts.
