The first photo, of Yallop in K3752, is probably well known but who is in the K3 in the second picture?

Looks like a J4 to me, Simon.

You could very well be right, Chris. I must admit I was just going by the caption in the journal where I saw it which simply referred to a Magnette.

I also think it is a J4, that distinctive exhaust run might be the clue? Normally the exhaust would have been over the rear wing.

Indeed I am told that the exhaust is the clue that it’s Mansell in J4004. The Mansell family owned Abingdon King Dick Tools

Simon.

There doesn’t appear to be any form of silencing on the Yallop K3. Imagine the noise reverberating in the Streets, it must have been ear shattering !

Chris,
I’d say it was pretty noisy. I used to run my TC with an open pipe exhaust, at least until I got nicked by the law near Finsbury Park. My flat mate was driving and he didn’t know how to feather the throttle in built up areas. I guess neither Yallop nor Mansell were big into feathering the throttle!

Looks like J4004, driven in this photo by Dennis K. Mansell at the Mannin Beg, IOM on 12/7/33.
Codriver was probably Bill Mewis. They finished second.

Anyone know a reason why the Mannin Beg couldn't be rerun?

Teifion,
For the benefit of our overseas readers, I’m assuming you mean the motorbike TT? Bike racing is a very different kettle of fish. Over here in Norn Iron we have bike races on road circuits that would give Motorsport U.K. a nervous breakdown if it was suggested that cars might race on them and I’d suspect that the IOM would be the same. Can you imagine trying to make this sort of road track suitable for cars? - https://youtu.be/Cy0SPp6yy2c

I can Imagine the safety of others (not racing) is the argument.
A motorcycle and rider might weigh 250-300kg where most race cars weigh double that.
Even if you go a bit slower than the bikes the kinetic energy increases too much.

The street circuits in use are either heavily protected (Monaco, Pau) or have such short straights the speeds stay within limits (Angouleme)

Great Joey Dunlop vid Simon, noticeable how few spectators align the long bike course, perhaps a timed car race would work..?

Every year around the end of April the Manx Motor Racing Club https://www.manxmotorracing.com/index.php runs a series of three hillclimbs, two of which use parts of the TT circuit. These are open to classics only, and there are very few spectators, generally in relatively safe areas.

There are usually two or three Triple-Ms taking part, including myself in previous years. Sadly it had to be cancelled last year, and has also been cancelled for this year. I hope to compete again next year, but now in my A*st*n Seven Special, The Moose.
