This car competed in the 1933 Alpine Rally driven by Richard Nash from Limerick in the Irish Free State. The same gentleman purchased an F1 from Jarvis in June 1932 and the question is, is this a Jarvis bodied car or did he have two F Magnas?
I should add that the Jarvis car is F0668/IU 2474 with Register number 1710 and was listed in the 2017 printed Register with a note that it was for sale. For some strange reason it is no longer listed in the printed Register (although the cross reference between registration number and chassis number remains!) nor is it listed in the public facing pages of the online Register. Perhaps someone could explain why cars seem to disappear from the public listings for no apparent reason? Surely lack of knowledge of the current owner is no reason to omit it since the owner's name is not given in the online version in any event.

I’d say it is an L type. Would coincidence nicely with the L type Alpine manifold ;)

Thanks, Onno. It’s not an L Type as I have other photos clearly showing the 8” brakes.

This is F0668 which is thought to be the same car, but after being 'restored' in this style because it was known to be a Jarvis - hence the wings.

I think I can see: Jarvis doors, Jarvis raked windscreen Jarvis external fuel tank strange, possibly Jarvis wings... Certainly all these things are not standard Carbodies.
Cheers

There’s no doubt that F0668/IU 2474 was a Jarvis bodied car. The question is, is the car in the Alpine Rally the same car as I don’t have a photo showing the reg number. If it is, it suggests that either Jarvis were ahead of the game when it came to fitting swept wings, or perhaps Richard Nash had L Type wings fitted. Anything is possible I suppose.

They are not L Type wings, too straight...
There are pics on Ian Ross's site.
F 0285 (Jarvis) has swept wings but they do look decidedly L.
Abbey put swept wings on F types, ridiculous things like bats wings.. F 0931 has them still, I believe,
The best picture of these is on Ian's site, click on body stiles, look at Abbey, top left. There are these "wonderful" swept wings! Such a shame if no example survives. . |
