By chance I tried to access the Technical Forum whilst not logged in and got the message that 'You must be logged in to enter this Forum'. Same with Parts For Sale although the other Forums are fine (apart from the Members' one, obviously).
A glitch, or a (welcome) change of policy?

Perhaps an unintentional result of this, Nick, but I find that if I try to view these two Forums when not logged in, my browser (iOS Safari) will offer me the possibility to use my saved login details, but this doesn’t happen on the main page of the Forums. If I have to log in there - which happens from time to time - the browser doesn’t seem to recognise the site and I have to log in manually.
Can you update us on why this test is being carried out?

Simon If you check your saved passwords, you may find the URL associated with your saved password includes the /topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=(some number). If so, you had accessed a topic when you saved the password. If not, I do not know! Nick

Nick, I can’t readily identify the URL associated with the saved password and to be honest, it’s not of any great significance - I was just curious.
That aside, what can you tell us about this 'test' and why it’s being conducted. As you know, I have long been an advocate for putting most of the website behind the login and password.

Nick, Are you going to share with us why this 'test' is being carried out?

Nick, Can I suggest a usability improvement should this feature remain permanent, which I think is a good idea and support? It would help me at least if, when being taken to the log-in page, the cursor was set focussed to the member's name box. Anyway, not significant, but should you ever wonder what to do with your time, then here is something to consider. Or could there be cyber implications to this....? Best regards David |

David A good idea, I always like it when a site is set up that way. I will put some thought to it. Nick
