Has anybody else matched the brown colour of the metal bases of the brown bakelite divers helmet dash lights? It looks to be slight reddish rich brown.
Thanks in advance |

In the US, we have a product called Rustoleum in a color of Espresso. Quite close to all the dash panel stuff.

Paul, Does this help: ) P Type instruments Brown paint forum posting 13May09.
The modern equivalent is Rover Brasilia Brown No. 214 (or Brazilian).
.. recommended by Patrick Henry which he uses when overhauling instruments and bezels. It was used on Rover 2000s in the 1970s.
Humbrol paint 186 is a perfect match. I have used it on my Cream Cracker dash and it matches the Rover Brazil brown that I have used on the car. This was a perfect match to the original brown that I found on JB 3854.
(B) On the cut-out cover, it's more like dark chocolate, not a match at all to the dashboard browns. It's close to the Bakelite, but not spot on. I have had many of these units - CJ's, RF's, etc, and they are all the same. Note: Humbrol 160 German Cam Red Brown is darker that 186.
* 186 Brown Matt - 14ml Enamel Paint i.e. for Horn Push/Dip Switch, Push Knobs plastic/Bakelite (AA6224) PLC Ignition/Lights Switch metal face plate, plastic switch knob. * Grey Primer Matt 14ml Enamel Paint - AA0014 * Enamel Thinners 125ml AC7430

Alan, my posting was an extract from a 2009 forum posting which I found, since I had to repair/restore/repaint some of the dashboard switches and the LH octagonal panel for my PB - i.e., no knowledge/contact with JB3854.

The 'browns' to the octagonal panel seem OK:
