A bit of along shot but has anybody got or know of a engine / steering box mount crossmember for F type mine snapped in half going over all the speed bumps on the otherwise enjoyable porkpie event, it does look as though it has been welded previously cheers TW

Suggest to give Russ Trueman a call 01274612492 - he made a J2 crossmember for me a few years ago.

Regards

Just out of interest, where are these cross members failing? Is it in the same place for both?

Does this therefore seem to be a part our illustrious suppliers might consider a batch of then?

While a broken cross member is going to be easy enough to get out in two pieces, how on earth would you get the replacement one installed? I recall taking the bolts out of the cross member on the J2 to move it forward a few inches to make it easier to get the engine out but I couldn’t imagine how it could have been removed and replaced?

Do F type ones have the strengthening fillet across the top like the P type one in the photo below?

Simon, to get the cross member out, you tunes one of the front knuckle spring pins and take out 4 of the front axle / road spring bolts. Fairly quick job

Rich,
Does this mean spreading the side rails slightly to allow the cross tube to be rotated (horizontally) so that one end bracket clears the side rail?

Yes, exactly. It does not have to spread far at all to get it out.
