The J2 that appeared in the 1980’s film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off I think it is probably J4311. This is based on the similarity in appearance plus J4311 was in Chicago in the early/mid 1980’s and owned by Rich Newman who apparently dealt in supplying props & vehicles to the film industry at the time. If anyone can shed any more light on this it would be appreciated. Attached are two pictures, the first from the film & the second of J4311 in my garage.
Actually, any info on J4311 (OY7230) would be appreciated. I have been trying to find some history but have nothing between the first owner and 1990 with the exception of the ownership in the early-mid 1980's Unfortunately the Croydon registration records appear to have been destroyed which has stymied efforts there. The car was rumoured to have gone to the USA in the 70's
Rob, I certainly hope it turns out that your car and the car from the movie are one and the same! I have been looking on and off for years for any hint of what chassis that J2 was. Good luck in your search!
Maybe members of the Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago remember. Through the years, the North American MMM Register has had about 15 members in the Chicago area. One was in Chicago proper and had several MMM cars. Unfortunately he is no longer with us.
Thanks, I think I will never know for sure. Hard to tell with the resolution off the film but I think the middle bar of the radiator is slightly bent and there is a similar bend on J4311 (an old badly done repair)
Thanks Ray. It was a friend of mine (also a J2 owner) who originally mentioned the similarity and thought they were the same car. This seemed to tie in with the ownership of the time.
