This M-Type was purchased in New Zealand in 1981 by Peter Briggs via an auction.

Can anyone throw some light on who may have imported it into New Zealand and when?
The car survives in Australia in 2025.

Odd that it's still in Australia as it has not been listed on the MG Prewar Register since the 2005 list in Peter Briggs' name. Must have gone into hiding! The NZ Triple M Register could still hold info on this car.

Rob, It's on the website copy of the register. Can't imagine why it's gone missing anywhere else.
Cheers

Matt, I was looking at the printed 2005 Prewar MG Register list and Peter Briggs is listed as owning M3207 not M3440. So did he own two and sell them both?

Rob, 3207A is the engine number in 2M3440. It must have been a transcribing error some 20 years ago or more.

I think I have sent the attached photo previously but never mind here it is again.
Taken near Rotorua, in the centre of the North Island of NZ Feb.1980.
I was driving along when I noticed the T type with the M on an A frame parked on the side of the road.of the road. Not something you see every day.

Thanks Peter. So I take it there is no further information on the T-Type driver or where he was headed?

Hello prewar MG,
Not many OHC in your neck of the woods I would be thinking.
Re the T type owner and his life plans, frankly I have not a clue and never had. Just seeing an M type being A framed behind a T type was novel enough and besides it was 45 years and 2 months ago.
Attached a pic of J3096 in its original and correct colour.

I owned 2M3440 for a couple of years, then bought M1224 and it went last year. I have a couple of OHC engines that just might get into my High Speed Service Van replica one day......
