Can't speak for the Bug, but the chassis of J2192 is fundamentally sound & all there, if slightly bent (but aren't they all?)and the cross-tubes may well be rather thin. But it also has "continuous history" as they say & 50 odd years in the earth equals "low mileage"

J2192 has now been recovered from site. The owner, UK MOD will be putting the remains up for sale by auction. We’re all taxpayers, so no apologies for the plug here - now’s your chance to help reduce the national debt! The sale will be conducted by Withams Specialist Vehicles Ltd (Tel:01476 861361 & www.mod-sales.com ). Details will appear on their web-site soon. Fine chaps that they are, they'll even be donating their commission to the Army Benevolent Fund and War Widows.

I have some photos of the recovery which I will post when I can, but right now the computer is not playing ball.

I love that snatch Defender with front mounted spare wheel - ideal for pushing other road users out of the way!

This would seem to explain how it got there - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/12/man-solves-mystery-of-1930s-sports-car-buried-on-salisbury-plain

The state of the chassis and other items is very similar to that of J4129 which mostly ended up in a damp builders lock up in Akourdalia, Cyprus since the early 1980s..now on the high seas on its way back to the UK.

Aside from the 'hype' is this J2 chassis any more significant than a J2 chassis in better condition which has spent 50 years in shed?

Nope. Just a couple of known pre-war (ordinary) owners with no known competition history. Just "celebrity status" because it made the media.
