Today is the first day of the 2017 RAC/Hero 1000 mile trial the route of which this afternoon brought the cars down a lane through Akeley where I live.
I watched the cars and was delighted to see entry number 51 Steve and Julia Robertson in PB0631, Registration DPF509; a 4 seater. I believe they won the trial either last year or the year before? Unfortunately I did not have a camera today but attach a photo Steve sent me following his success in the earlier run. The car is still as I sprayed it in Autumn Red which was the same as my YB.
And the connection? I bought the car when I lived in Truro in the early 1970s and subsequently rebuilt it when I had moved to the Swindon area. The last time I saw it was on a trailer when Barry Walker bought it from me in about 1984/5! I am afraid I stopped them to say hello!
I only sold the car as I had just finished building ARY614, PB0462, and also owned a very tidy and original YB.
There were two other Triple-M cars - Philipp Gut/Car-Gustav from Switzerland in a "K3 special" and Angus Forsyth/Marcus Atkinson who were entered in an Austin Ulster but were in fact in a blue MG which could have been either an ND or a K2?

The picture was taken by a fellow villager!

Now have pictures of the other two cars, does anyone know the drivers or their cars?
The Registration number of the K3 style car is not in the Register, the blue car looks like a K2 to me.

Quick google against the rally number brings up Gran Premio Nuvolari 2016 number 33 as George Beale Angus Forsyth GB 1933 MG KD if that helps, at least it gives 2 names :)

At the end of Day 2 a T=Type (supercharged TB) was in 3rd place. The K2 was in 31st place. The PB had to retire with head gasket issues.

And so to add to the thread... Steve and Julia Robertson in PB0631 have just left our workshop with a newly fitted head gasket and are on the way to meet with their fellow competitors at the hotel in Chepstow tonight, ready to re-join the event tomorrow morning. We appear to be one up already in the Austin v MG challenge, as Angus Forsyth had originally entered his Austin Ulster, but had unfortunately not been able to start. George Beale had kindly offered K2014 and with a small amount of logistical assistance from ourselves, Angus and Marcus are also now keeping the MMM flag flying! Wishing them all the very best for days 4 and 5!

Hi Andy and all
Nice to know the PB is back on the road and re-joining the event.
Just for good measure I have the attached photo of the supercharged TB which John noted was in 3rd place at the end of yesterday's run.

Hi George and all We thought you would like to see the Hero Event write up on your being re-united with PB0631 on Monday. http://heroevents.eu/events/2017-royal-automobile-club-1000-mile-trial/ Day two – to TC 2/4, Chatsworth House..... "Yesterday saw them on a road section where a spectator jumped out in front of them waving his hands, they stopped to be told: “I used to own this car!”, they had reunited a former owner with their MG, he lovingly patted the car and recalled fond memories of using it before the Robertson’s departed to the next section". Stop Press.... Unfortunately, another MMM casualty on day 3 of the event this evening with Car 29 Phillippe LeibundGut & Carl Gustav Mez MG K3 Special experiencing possible half shaft/diff/CWP issues. An overnight breakdown delivery to our workshop will give us an early start at around 5am tomorrow morning.......can we get them back on the trial?

Andy,
As I expect they have told you I am to blame for the drivers of car 29, the K special, getting in touch with you. I told them that I thought you might have a K diff or CWP you could sell/lend them to enable them to get to the finish.
