PA 2007 Engine AP 2300 originally. On 13/05/57 another engine was put in AP 1584. and both engine No's shown on the duplicate ownership papers. It has also stamped below the AP 1587 on the replacement block these numbers 1351? All this info is on the site Cheers Ian.

Hi Ian
The engine that was originally in your car (1537AP) has clearly found its way into PA2007, which is the car now being offered for sale.
The Register's suggestion is that the replacement engine now in your car should be subtly re-numbered by adding /2 after the present number that it bears. (Details below)
I don't think we have an image of your engine on the database - could you perhaps e-mail a pic to me? Thanks! As regards the present stamping on PA2007's block, the 135 denotes a single breather PA engine and the '1' is in fact the letter 'P'!
Back to PA2007: Engine number 1584AP (the engine that is reported to have been installed in 1957) derived from PA1321 which is listed as now living in the USA - and with that engine number shown as 'current' - which seems likely to be incorrect.
Oddly (and more likely to be correct) the engine is recorded as now being installed in PA1378 which resides in Wiltshire!
Does anyone know any more details about PA2007? It's not currently listed on the Register and we know nothing of its past or recent history, other than the fact it started life as a 2-seater sports in March 1936 with a Shropshire owner and was black with red trim!
In case it helps you and others, here are the Register's guidelines relating to replacement engines and blocks:
6. REPLACEMENT ENGINES AND CYLINDER BLOCKS For various reasons it may become necessary: - to replace a car's original engine with another unit derived from another Triple-M car. - to substitute an original cylinder block with a newly-manufactured replacement block.
Whenever these changes occur, the Register asks owners to ensure that details of the change are notified to the Registrar. It is the Register's policy that whenever a newly-manufactured cylinder block is utilised, it should be stamped with an identifying number followed by the suffix "/2". The identifying number should be one that that is appropriate to that particular vehicle. If the new block is of the same type as that of the engine originally installed in that car at the time of manufacture, it will be in order to use the original engine's number. Alternatively if the new block replaces an engine that was not original to that car, it is permissible to use the number of the engine that is being replaced, in each case adding the suffix "/2" previously mentioned. The Registrar should be consulted in case of any uncertainty.

PS
Ian, As a matter of interest where did you get the info that engine #1584AP was installed in 13/5/1957? I ask because according to the sale papers with PA2007 a Duplicate Cert of Registration of the car with the NZ authorities - and with a typed date stamp dated 10/10/1938 the engine number was changed to 1587AP although, coonfusingly, the date 15.3.57 is also typed on the form! - 1587AP is the engine number that is recorded in a current picture of the car in the TradeMe advert!

The car did not sell at the TradeMe auction.
Have tried to reach Rod Brayshaw and Ian Lawrence about the car just now, but both e-mails have bounced! Are you there, guys?
The seller (Jeremy) is coming to MG Live! in June so maybe we'll meet.....

Hi Dick,
I've just popped a note to Geoff Broadhead here in NZ about this, he runs a local MMM register and he and I have discussed the car. He will also have a current email address Rod and likely Ian too.
Cheers, Daniel |
